French newspaper staff go on strike for departed editor

By Patrick

Journalists at French national newspaper Les Echo went on strike yesterday in protest at “interference” from the paper’s owners that led to the resignation of editor Erik Israelewicz.

The FT reports that owners LVMH, a luxury goods group who bought the paper from FT owner Pearson for £178.5m last year, had interfered with stories. Les Echo Group chairman Nicolas Beytout denies meddling and criticised Israelewicz for jumping ship to the paper’s rival La Tribune.
