French newspaper ordered to carry health warning on wine story

By Martin Stabe wirepost

A Paris court has decided that a newspaper article about wine must carry a health warning Decanter is reporting.

The court ruled that a story published in 2005 by Le Parisien, could be constituted as advertising even if space on the page had not been sold. The story, entitled “the triumph of Champagne” contained recommendations, stockists and price details along with profiles of marques.

The paper was ordered to pay €5,000 (£3,750) in damages to the anti-alcoholism organisation ANPAA, which bought the case to court.
