Former ITN newsreader Carol Barnes is said to be “fighting for her life” after she suffered a massive stroke at her home in Brighton, reports The Mirror.
The 63-year-old has been unconscious since she collapsed on Sunday and doctors have warned she is unlikely to survive.
Barnes joined ITN as a reporter in 1975 and went on to become the face of ITV news for nearly 30 years. In 1999 she quit her post at ITN but continued on the ITV News Channel until 2004, the year her daughter Clare was killed in a sky-diving accident.
Barnes recently presented a documentary about former ITN colleague Ed Mitchell’s battle with alcohol addiction.
