A New York Times reporter landed a scoop late last month after confidential documents from a pharmaceutical company were accidentally e-mailed to him.
Furious executives at drugs giant Eli Lilly & Co. initially suspected a leak when the New York Times reported details of the drugs giant’s settlement in a legal case.
But according to a source cited by Portfolio.com, a lawyer working for the company seems to have sent the files to the reporter, Alex Berenson, instead of another lawyer, Bradford Berenson. Oops.
Understandably, perhaps, nobody involved was willing to confirm Portfolio’s story.
But Berenson — the reporter, that is — told his story to National Public Radio’s On The Media this week:
