Irish telecoms tycoon Denis O’ Brien has again increased his stake in Independent News & Media, the parent company of the Independent, Independent on Sunday and Belfast Telegraph.
O’Brien, who has advocated selling off the two loss-making national titles, now controls 20.1643 per cent of the company. I
O’Brien has been building up his stake in the company for months while engaging in a bitter war of words with Tony O’Reilly the company’s chairman and primary shareholder, whom he accuses of poor corporate governance. IN&M refers to O’Brien as a “dissident shareholder”.
