Dawn Airey departure causes a stir at ITV

By paulmcnally

Dawn Airey, the ITV head of global production who resigned last week to return to Five as chairman and chief executive, was “desperately unhappy” at the broadcaster, a colleague has told the Telegraph.

“Michael [Grade] has set up the worst of all situations where there are four people going for the chief executive’s role,” the former colleague said. “Not only that, he has got himself another year.”

According to the Observer, the ITV chief executive, Michael Grade, is reported to be “livid” about Airey’s decision to leave the broadcaster after seven months to return to Five.

The Mail on Sunday, meanwhile, says Airey’s departure has cleared an obstacle for ITV’s head of commercial operations, Rupert Howell, who is now tipped to be the most likely candidate to take over from Grade as chief executive in 2010.
