Daily Express makes 100 year-old archive available online

Daily Express has launched an online archive charging users £5.95 for 48 hours’ access to past editions of the paper.

More than 1.7 million papges have been made available as every edition of the Express published since it first rolled into print in 1900 has been uploaded to ukpressonline.

Users are able to view thumbnail previews of pages relating to their search but will have to pay for more details and higher quality photos.

The archive, which is emblazoned with the tag: “The best british newspaper archive on the web” faces stiff competition from already established content providers. The Times and The Guardian already have comprehensive digital archives, with the Times costing less, at £4.95 for a days access.

Ukpressonline is also offering access to the archives of the Daily and Sunday Star.
