Crain’s Manchester cuts rates to keep advertisers

By Rachael

Northern business title, Crain’s Manchester Business, has cut its advertising rates in response to the ever worsening economy.

Publisher Arthur Porter told How-Do: ‘We have to face up to the fact that the market is in a different shape now than it was when we were planning to launch into Manchester. We’ve looked at it and taken the market into consideration.”

His announcement comes as City AM announces a Manchester edition. Porter didn’t seem worried about the competition however.

“If it follows a model similar to its London edition then I think it’ll end up looking more like the North West Enquirer than Crains. They tend to cover the whole gambit of ‘City’ life – including sport, gambling and so on – and their news is not strictly local. Our paper is strictly local, strictly Manchester and strictly business, so I think there’s two different propositions there.”

Manchester has seen a boom in business media is recent months. American company NXTBOOK launched a free digital business magazine last month, and regional business news website The Business Desk launched a North West edition in the same week.
