Condé Nast UK launches Wired on the iPad

By admin

Condé Nast UK has unveiled the paid-for iPad edition of technology magazine Wired.

At £2.39 the digital version has been priced lower than the newsstand cover price of the printed monthly magazine – that sells for £3.99, although subscribers pay just £2 per issue for the print version.

Wired editor David Rowen told readers what they can expect from the new launch in a blog post yesterday:

“So what will you get on the iPad? Everything that’s in the print magazine, with extra multimedia content when we feel it helps tell a story.

“Turn the iPad screen from portrait to landscape mode, and you can watch video documentaries, click around 360-degree photographs, interact with animated infographics, and listen to music and audio tracks when they add value to our journalism.

“We’ve also inserted a few Easter eggs, to add a little serendipitous discovery as you navigate through the app.”

Executives at Condé Nast UK revealed their intention to launch specially formulated December editions of its flagship magazines Vogue and Wired on the iPad during a briefing to media buyers and journalists in September.

The iPad issues of Vogue and Wired are intended to a ‘one-off’to help the publisher learn about the new device ahead of further digital launches throughout 2011 and follow the launch of Wired, GQ and Vanity Fair on the device in the US.
