A blogger in China was beaten to death on while filming a confrontation between villagers and the authorities
Wei Wenhua, a 41-year-old construction company executive, was filming a protest Wanba, a village on the outskirts of Tianmen in Hubei on his mobile phone when officials turned on him and beat him, the Guardian reports.
According to CNN Chinese authorities have detained 24 municipal inspectors and are investigating more than 100.
The Committee to Protect Bloggers Journalists expressed concern that that this is “not an isolated event”. A view backed up by a report in the Philippine Star that two TV journalists were beaten up while reporting on a rent dispute in Western China.
