Business briefs: Micrahoo, Setanta, Sky/ITV

By paulmcnally

Yahoo! chief executive Jerry Yang’s refusal to negotiate with Microsoft about its hostile takeover bid has split the Yahoo! board down the middle, according to the Guardian. Meanwhile, the Sunday Telegraph claims AOL is in talks with Yahoo! about a possible link-up in a bid to shake off Microsoft’s advances.

BSkyB will this week lodge its appeal against a Competition Commission ruling that it must reduce its stake in ITV from 17.9 per cent to no more than 7.5 per cent. According to the Sunday Telegraph, BSkyB stands to lose more than £300m if it is forced to sell.

Setanta has received tentative approaches from would-be buyers but no serious offers, a company source has told the Daily Mail. BT is rumoured to be one of the potential bidders.
