BT’s director of communications has criticised the Office of Fair Trading over quotes it gave for a Daily Mail story, according to PR Week. (subscription only)
Peter Morgan was angry that the OFT press office told a Mail reporter that customers who joined the company before it imposed a £4.50 charge for non-direct debit bill payers would have a “strong case” for not paying the charge.
Morgan was happy that the OFT had not been misquoted in the article, but thought that the line was counter to what the OFT’s official position. The Mail has sinec printed a clarification telling customers the fee is not optional.
