Bristol City Council faces pressure to scrap £200k-a-year newspaper

By Dominic wireposts

Bristol City Council’s ruling Lib Dem group is coming under pressure from opposition parties to scrap a newspaper which it publishes at a cost of £208,000 a year.

The Bristol Evening Post reports that 190,000 copies of Our City are posted to households six times a year. A compromise proposal could see the title cut from six editions a year to four.

New Government rules have been set before Parliament which would ban council-run newspapers from competing with independent media and which have stated that they should come out no more often than quarterly.
