The BBC closed the messageboard for popular Radio 4 programme Woman’s Hour because it does not have the “resources” to monitor it, the show’s editor has said.
Woman’s Hour editor Jill Burridge told the Radio 4 Feedback programme that closing the messageboard in December – which was used by listeners to provide feedback on stories – was not an attempt to silence critics.
“For a message board to run really well it’s very carefully hosted by people within the BBC,” she said.
“We haven’t got the resources to host a messageboard. We have limited resources now and the messageboard was taking up a disportionate amount of our time.
“If we ask for emails from people we can use them on air and their views are reflected back. There are plenty of other opportunities for people to engage in dialogue.”
