Scottish first minister Alex Salmond has supported a proposal to launch a £75m Scottish digital TV network – and said licence-fee payers north of the border were not getting value for money.
According to AllMediaScotland.com, Salmond told parliament yesterday: “At present, some £300m is raised from Scottish licence fee payers, yet only £140m is actually spent in Scotland – illustrating a substantial investment shortfall.”
He also echoed calls by the Scottish Broadcasting Commission for the BBC and Channel 4 to commission more network programmes from Scotland – which he said could bring in tens of millions of pounds of investment.
