Aberdeen’s Press and Journal to go fully tabloid

The Aberdeen-based Press and Journal is to go fully tabloid from early next year, staff have beeen told.

The UK’s biggest circulation regional morning had an average daily sale of 71,044 in the first six months of this year (down 4.6 per cent year on year) – according to the latest circulation figures from ABC.

The DC Thomson-owned title is distributed across the north of Scotland is one of the most successful regional titles in the UK – in part due to Aberdeen’s oil wealth.

It went tabloid on Saturdays seven years ago and went tabloid on Mondays in July. According to The Drum, the move will leave The Courier in Dundee, and the Herald in Glasgow as Scotland’s only remaining indigenous broadsheets.
