Former Sun editor Kelvin Mackenzie has failed in his bid to become a councillor in his home town of Weybridge.
Mackenzie was standing for the Weybridge South seat on Elmbridge Borough Council in Surrey. He won 227 votes.
“As former editor of the Sun you’re considered a monster, but if you smile and say I don’t want car parking charges to go up 43 per cent, you win people over,” he tells the Independent.
