Mystic Lloyd misses out on 100-1 royal baby windfall – but wins free lunch from Sun editor after election bet

By Axegrinder

There has been much debate since the election about how much of an impact newspapers had on the result.

Was it The Sun wot won it? It's hard to say conclusively, but the newspaper's editor, David Dinsmore, was clearly feeling confident after his paper endorsed the Tories.

Axegrinder hears that Dinsmore won a 10-1 bet on the Conservatives winning a majority.

How much did he make? Well, enough to take Mirror editor-in-chief Lloyd Embley out for a celebration lunch.

It might not be much consolation for Embley, though, who as well as backing Labour in print lost an election bet.

To make matters worse, Embley did not place a bet on the name of the latest Royal baby – despite previously correctly predicting its forename and middle names.

Ahead of the birth of Prince George in 2013, he tweeted that if the baby was a girl it would be called Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

Had Embley bet on this name before the latest baby's gender was known, William Hill would have given him 100-1 odds.
