Murdoch ‘to place Sky News in independent trust’

As we appear to be approaching the endgame of Rupert Murdoch’s bid to buy the 61 per cent of BSkyB that he does not already own – the Telegraph reports that he is putting together a plan to have the station run by an independent trust.

Whatever the outcome of the BSkyB deal – the protection of Sky News seems imperative. Its performance in the RTS awards, and the amazing coverage of the Arab revolts over the last few weeks, underline what an important British journalistic institution it has become.
