Photo shy former head of phone-hacking investigation to accept her CBE in private

By Axegrinder

The former cop in charge of Scotland Yard’s investigation into phone hacking, Sue Akers will be travelling to Windsor tomorrow for a quick curtsey in front of the Queen before picking up a CBE.

Normally the brief ceremony is filmed for posterity and a few snaps are taken for the family album. Akers is being awarded for her sterling police service, after she retired as Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service this summer.

Despite having one of the highest profile roles in British policing and starring at the Leveson investigation, Ms Akers has ticked the “no publicity box” normally used by spooks and special forces types who like to remain firmly in the shadows.

In a politely worded email from the palace, Akers was on a list of three people who requested that no photographs or film be released from tomorrow’s ceremony.

Akers will be joined at Windsor Castle by Clare Balding who will receive her OBE for services to journalism and broadcasting.
