Former prison officer and a woman arrested by police investigating payments by journalists

A former prison officer and a 36-year-old woman have been arrested by police investigating bribery allegations involving journalists.

The two arrests bring the number individuals arrested under Operation Elveden to 64.

The Met Police said: “A 37-year-old man was arrested at approximately 0600 hrs at his home in West Glamorgan, Wales, for suspected misconduct in a public office, contrary to Common Law and suspected conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office, contrary to the Criminal Law Act 1977. He is a former prison officer and is being interviewed at a police station in South Wales.

“A 36-year-old woman was arrested at approximately 0600 hrs at her home address in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets for suspected conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office, contrary to the Criminal Law Act 1977 and suspected money laundering contrary to the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. She is being interviewed at an East London police station.”
