Farmers Weekly scoop three agricultural journalism awards

By Ilse Bruijn

Farmers Weekly journalists swept the board in the annual Yara Journalism Awards, winning all three categories.

The awards, organised by the British Guild or Agricultural Journalism, are judged by farmers, industry specialists, as well as last year’s winners and feature a £3000 prize for each of the three categories.

Freelancers Aly Balsom and Sarah Henly took away the prizes in the categories “Livestock and Environment” and “Arable crops and Grassland”, while Farmers Weekly Farmlife editor Tim Relf won the category “Rural affairs” with his article based on an interview with the farming parents of a teenage girl who had been killed in a car accident.

The judges said: “It was a well-crafted story which will no doubt tug on the heartstrings of anyone who reads it and which leaves the reader with an important, lasting message provided through practical tips and advice.”
