The Russian oligarch’s son who is making a splash in the Evgeny Standard

By Axegrinder

Londoners must be grateful to have the Evening Standard these days so they can keep tabs on the comings and goings of Evgeny Lebedev.

His purchase of the paper in 2010 has coincided with an upsurge of interest at the Standard in the charity work and other interests of the previously unknown son of a Russian oligarch.

Axegrinder salutes Evgeny's latest charity wheeze (when Elton John shaved off his beard and eyebrows for Comic Relief).

It was the second time a picture of Evgeny had made the page three lead in the Standard in as many weeks, after previously being pictured meeting Prince Charles in the Standard offices (sans beard, but with stick-on eyebrows). And he was also on the front page yesterday.

A search of Evening Standard archive reveals more than 200 mentions of Evgeny since 2010 (including around 50 bylined articles). Curiously he does not feature in the Standard archive at all before that date.
