Axegrinder had hoped that news would filter through of some booze-fuelled fisticuffs in a late-night West End bar or at least a decent dust-up with a cabbie over a failure to supply a few blank receipts on the way home after the Press Gazette Awards last week.
Sadly, any bad behaviour seems to be distressingly light on the ground, although young Times hack Patrick Foster did pick up and throw away a shoe belonging to the young journalist of the year, the Sunday Mirror’s Kate Mansey, after she pipped him to the award at the Grosvenor House hotel ceremony. But a contrite Foster swiftly retrieved her footwear after a steely glare from the not-to-be-messed-with Mansey.
Several of the award winners, including The Sun’s Tom Newton Dunn, did adjourn to the nearby Met Bar until gone 3am for a few more sherbets, but yet again the behaviour was impeccable. What is the world coming to?
