The Stage has had a go (on Mark Shelton’s blog, mind you) at tired audiences who fall asleep during performances ‒ particularly shows “in the round” where theatregoers can see one another.
The paper’s anger is particularly directed at “one senior newspaper critic” in the front row at last week’s opening night of The Enchantment at the National Theatre in London.
The critic could be seen “resting his eyes on a number of occasions”.
The Stage does not identify the critic other than saying he resembles Mr Burns from The Simpsons.
