Met warning on viewing James Foley execution video is a misuse of Counter-Terrorism Act

By Cleland Thom

I blogged the other day about the way the police misuse terrorism legislation to target journalists, and the public.

You won’t get a better example than this where the Met police warn that people who watch the video of the beheading of an American journalist could be committing a crime.

Of course. That’s exactly what Parliament intended.

Maybe if I write to the Commissioner and tell him that the Counter-Terrorism Act 2008 was intended to target terrorism suspects … he will give me a cadetship at Hendon police college?

If he did, I still wouldn’t get in. Because I have 1 per cent of common sense.
