Kentish Times throws karma into reverse

By Axegrinder axeblog

Here’s a riches-to-rags story from the Kentish Times involving freelance subeditor Tony “Tosh” Berry, who returned to work with a spring in his step after four very profitable days at the Cheltenham Festival.

Within minutes, he was informed he had won the office Comic Relief sweepstake and was handed £30. With his pockets already bulging with wads of bookies’ cash, he had no hesitation in donating the sweepstake prize to the KT’s Comic Relief fund.

Days later Berry, who has worked five shifts a week at the KT for the past year or so, was called into the office of editor Melody Ryall, who apparently was not in a charitable mood. He was axed with immediate effect because of “new budgets” and all his future shifts cancelled.
