I understand that research is currently being impaired at the Financial Times while the library at One Southwark Bridge is shifting all its books and files upstairs.
The reason is that there is extensive decorating being carried out on the second floor, which has housed the FT library since the late-Eighties when the venerable institution moved from Bracken House
Previous addresses have included Finsbury Square, Charterhouse Street, Greystoke Place, Old Street and Tottenham Court Road before the title was finally crammed into One Southwark Bridge.
At the same time, there’s been a memo sent round to scribes saying that the news desk does not approve phrases such as ‘It is understood that…’or ‘It is believed that…”. Instead, the preferred terminology should be ‘A source close to the situation…”.
I also learn from a good authority that staff are being encouraged NOT to take taxis any longer, when buses or tubes will do. Could this be the first signs that the Pink ‘Un, which was in rude financial health in 2007, is starting to feel the effects of the financial downturn?
