The Independent has found a bizarre way to attempt to lift morale after a depressing series of redundancies. The dwindling number of troops at editor-in-chief Simon Kelner’s Docklands base have been sent an email about the ship moored outside their windows.
It is the Swedish vessel Gotheborg (pictured in all her glory above) ‒ and Indy staff are even given a link to a fascinating video about the ship and its history. The over-worked hacks rarely get out these days, so probably won’t get the chance to toured the 18th century sailing ship, moored outside Independent House until 2 June.
But perhaps the view from their desks helped inspire the splash about the fire on the Cutty Sark just down the river?
