Bill Deedes memorial

By Axegrinder axeblog

The memorial service for Bill Deedes takes place at the end of this month at the Guard’s Chapel in London and, not surprisingly, one of the organisers tells me that all 700 tickets have already been allocated.

“Those without tickets should not show up and expect to be let in, as this won’t happen,” I’m told. “The security will be very strict on the day.”

The address will be given by one of Bill’s successors to the editor’s chair at The Daily Telegraph, Charles Moore. Among the ushers are three ex-Telegraph types: Stephen Robinson, the former comment editor who is completing the finishing touches to the official biography of Bill; Harry Mount, former leader writer and New York correspondent; and Andrew Hutchinson, former night editor. One current member of the staff, comment editor Richard Preston, has been asked to be an usher.
