The Express Newspapers offices on Lower Thames Street are infected with vermin (namely mice) and pest control can do nothing about the problem because hard-working hacks are lunching at their desks.
The situation has got so bad that Environmental Health have paid a visit to the offices after being tipped off by a fed-up staffer.
In a hard-hitting memo to Express HR a City of London pest control wonk says: “The current culture is to eat at desks due to staff not being able, or not willing, to eat in the canteen provided “In my opinion there needs to be a dramatic change in the current culture, particularly on the 2nd floor. Should you and your employees wish to eradicate this pest problem, action must be taken now and for the foreseeable future.”
Warning that any food left on desks is at risk of contamination, she warns: “not only do mice have very weak bladder control but they also carry disease.” Eesh!
Lance Armstrong may have been stripped of all his cycling honours but at least one prize appears to be safe.
Ironically – considering the role of journalism in bringing about Armstrong’s downfall – it is the William Hill sports book of the year 2000 (a prize which has previously been won by journalist Paul Kimmage who did so much to expose Armstrong).
William Hill told Press Gazette they have no plans to review the decision even though we now know that “It’s not about the bike” was rather economical with the truth to say the least.
