At least four journalists arrested in Burma

By Julie Tomlin GR

The Burmese correspondent of the Japanese daily Tokyo Shimbun, Min Zaw and three Burmese journalists were arrested last week, Reporters Without Borders claims, bringing the total to ten.

At least 1000 people were arrested during last week’s protests.

The Japanese deputy minister is due to arrive in Burma to investigate the murder of Japanese video reporter Kenji Nagai – the press freedom organisation has urged him to intervene with the authorities to get Min Zaw released.

The Guardian reports that Japan’s foreign ministry has warned the country’s media not to send staff to Burma, and to keep those already in the country away from dangerous areas following the shooting of Kenji Nagai.
