A flippin’ good lesson

By Axegrinder axeblog

The idea of McDonald’s issuing its own A-levels ‒ or McQualifications ‒ met with short shrift by many journalists this week.

But John Hand, writing on the BBC website, gave them more credence, noting how he spent his teenage years as a part-time McJobber to help pay his way through sixth-form and journalism college, claiming it “taught him valuable lessons about life”.

And Hand made a point that might have a number of trainee reporters throwing in their notepad and reaching for the burger flipper.

“When the time came to leave for a ‘proper job’ in journalism, it actually brought with it a cut in pay.”
