Independent online news editor Christian Broughton has been promoted to editor with a brief to collaborate with all Independent news desks in a bid to publish more content online throughout the day.
He said: “It’s a very exciting time for Independent.co.uk and I am thrilled to be able to lead this talented team in steering Independent.co.uk’s digital growth to deliver high quality content to a quality audience on whichever platform they choose to engage with our brand.”
The Independent has also created the role of digital operations editor which Martin King will take up. Reporting to Broughton, he will oversee daily publishing and content management.
Meanwhile, the editor of comment section Independent Voices, Amol Rajan, will deputise for Broughton on independent.co.uk at large.
Online managing director Zach Leonard said: “Independent.co.uk has enjoyed enormous success so far this year, not only in August’s ABC figures, but also with the launch of Independent Voices last week.
“Christian, Martin and Amol are incredibly talented members of our team who will drive our digital growth ensuring we take advantage of all innovative and digital opportunities.”
In August Independent.co.uk attracted just over 19m "unique browsers" according to ABC, up 31 per cent year on year.
