Western Gazette appoints new deputy editor

By Press Gazette

Anna Jenkins has been appointed deputy editor at the Western Gazette in Yeovil.

Jenkins trained on the Southampton Guardian before joining the Southern Evening (now Daily) Echo in 1989, where she became deputy news editor. For three years she was editor of the Sunday Independent in Plymouth – the first woman in the post since the newspaper was first published in 1808. In 1998 she became new projects editor for Newscom (now Newsquest) in Southampton, working with editorial teams across 120 titles.

She has also worked on titles in Portsmouth, Gloucestershire and Wales and most recently spent two years in communications with the NHS. She said: “I’m delighted to be joining the Western Gazette team. I grew up in north Dorset reading the Gazette and it’s always been part of my life.” Jenkins took up her new post 16 years after her first week’s work experience at the Gazette inspired her to switch from her previous career in music.

The Western Gazette was crowned the Newspaper Society’s paid-for weekly newspaper of the year 2002.
