Teenage trainee Niamh Byrne pulled off this Bristol Evening Post front-page exclusive interview with a gangland shooting victim in the city.
Byrne, 19, has only been on the paper for 18 months and was selected as part of a recruitment drive to recruit junior journalists from within Bristol, rather than middle class graduates.
Deputy editor Stan Szecowka said Byrne’s local contacts on an estate had enabled her to secure the interview with the victim.
“Giving a local kid a chance has come up trumps,” he said.
