Tory leader and Met chief to talk at editors’ conference

By Press Gazette

Opposition leader Michael Howard and Metropolitan police commissioner Sir John Stevens will be keynote speakers at the Society of Editors’ annual conference in Newcastle-uponTyne between October 17 and 19.

The conference – Let’s Get Real – will open with the Society of Editors’ Lecture on the Sunday evening. Main conference sessions during Monday will take place at the Conference Hotel – the Copthorne – on the quayside.

The gala annual dinner will be held at the Discovery Museum on Monday.

The conference will close on Tuesday after a breakfast seminar that will debate “What makes a good journalist?”, followed by the incoming president’s address by Keith Sutton.

One North East, the region’s development agency, is the main sponsor of the conference.

SoE president Neil Benson, editorial director of Trinity Mirror Regional Newspapers, said: “Newcastle is a vibrant city with a real buzz about it and we are aiming to produce a conference in a similar vein.”
