18. British journalism’s greatest ever scoops: Serb detention camps (ITN, Penny Marshall and Ian Williams, 1992)

They were TV pictures which shocked the world and showed the emaciated prisoners at a Serb-run detention camp in Omarska, which revealed that Nazi-style camps were again in Europe.

After Living Marxism magazine claimed the story was faked ITN won £375,000 in libel damages. Ed Vulliamy also wrote a celebrated eye-witness account of the camps for The Guardian.
