Robin McKie did not believe the science was possible when he was first tipped off that scientists at the Roslin Institute had cloned the first mammal from an adult cell.

When the story broke Dolly was already seven months old. The clone was named after Dolly Parton because the cells used to clone her were taken from a mammary gland.
