Former Reuters journalist and senior FT.com editor Peter Bale has been named the first editorial director for Times Online.
Bale will be responsible for running the editorial team for the website, which features content from The Times and Sunday Times.
Robert Thomson, editor of The Times, said: “Peter will be working closely with all divisions of Times Newspapers Limited to ensure that we continue to develop the site and further extend the brand.”
John Witherow, editor of The Sunday Times, added: “Peter Bale is a talented editor with an outstanding knowledge of the power of online content and its potential.”
Bale’s Reuters career has spanned more than 15 years and has included spells as bureau chief in Bucharest and political correspondent in London.
Since 2002 he has worked as a consultant for clients including Microsoft and Reuters on internet projects. Prior to that he was editor-in-chief of FTMarketWatch.com for two years before becoming editor of FT.com Markets and FT Investor.com.
