Telegraph Group appoints editor-in-chief

By Press Gazette

Telegraph Group chief executive Murdoch MacLennan has created the post of editor-in-chief above his two national editors.

Daily
Mail consultant editor since 2001, John Bryant, has been given the job.
According to Telegraph Group, Bryant will oversee the editorial
development of both newspapers, working closely with editors Martin
Newland and Sarah Sands.

Bryant, 61, had been consultant editor
at the Mail since 2001. His previous jobs have included: deputy editor
of the Daily Mail, editor of the Sunday Correspondent and The European
and deputy editor of The Times.

He is the third senior editorial
manager to join the Telegraph from the Mail since the Barclay Brothers
bought Telegraph Group for £665m in 2004.

Associated Newspapers managing director MacLennan was headhunted in August 2004.

Daily
Mail managing editor Lawrie Sear joined the Telegraph in February on a
three-month contract, but has stayed on as group managing editor.
