Tabloid Irish Indy sales move up

The tabloid version of the Irish Independent, launched this year, has been a sales success, writes Des Cryan.

New ABC figures show the paper averaged 52,045 for the first six months of the year. The combined circulation of the daily Independent reached 181,080 during the same period. Sales of the broadsheet, however, at 129,035, were down 33,428 compared with the same period in the previous year.

This means that the newspaper has netted an extra sale of 18,600 copies since the introduction of the compact format.

Significantly, the only Dublin evening newspaper, The Evening Herald, owned by IN&,M has had a 7.3 per cent drop in sales. At 92,510,the paper is down 7,223 compared with the equivalent period in 2003. Sales of The Irish Times at 116,009, showed a drop of 1,556 on last year.
