Some 189 years after The Manchester Guardian was founded – Guardian Media Group has sold the Manchester Evening News and its other regional newspapers to Trinity Mirror for £7.4m.
A further £37.4 is being lumped into the deal from GMG being released from its printing contracts with Trinity.
The MEN building is not included in the deal – so MEN journalists will soon be leaving their integrated multimedia newsroom for new offices in Oldham.
The sell-off marks the end of a close relationship between the MEN and The Guardian which dates back more than 140 years – when they first shared offices.
