editor at the Stroud News & Journal , Sue Smith, has been promoted
to editor following the departure of Skip Walker, who is moving to
become editor of the Gloucestershire Gazette .
Smith, who has
been news editor for four years, began her journalistic career in 1976
as a trainee reporter on the Bury Free Press in Bury St Edmunds.
She progressed through the regional press to the Daily Mail and Weekend magazine.
She has also freelanced for a number of national newspapers and magazines during a break to raise a family.
Smith said: “I’m thrilled to get the job. I’ve been here for four years and this is what I’ve been working towards.
The News & Journal is already a great paper and I hope to keep it that way while continuously trying to improve it.”
