British broadcasters scored successes at the International Film and Video and Television Programming and Promotions Awards in New York this week.
Sky News picked up a prestigious gold medal for its coverage of ‘The Siege of Kunduz’, the last Taliban stronghold in northern Afghanistan.
The winning coverage, which tracked the siege by the Northern Alliance and subsequent Taliban surrender, won the gold in the coverage of breaking news (longform) category.
Nick Pollard, head of Sky News, said: “This award underlines our authority in breaking news.”
ITV News also picked up two medals; one for Tim Ewart as best news correspondent and the other for ‘The Fall of Northern Afghanistan’ in the coverage of an ongoing story category.
Sky’s Africa correspondent, Stuart Ramsay, was awarded a finalist certificate in the best news correspondent category and Sky correspondent Gerard Tubb’s investigation into Lord Carter’s pig farms won a finalist certificate in the investigative report category.
