Up to 10 journalists have been hit by the shock closure of the weekly Housing Today.
Staff
were called in to a meeting on Thursday last week at the magazine’s
Ludgate House offices in London and told that week’s issue was to be
the last.
The magazine was jointly published by CMPi and the
National Housing Federation. It went out to 27,000 staff working in the
housing association sector.
Housing Today was launched by the NHF
in 1996 and was relaunched as a joint venture with Builder Group in
2002. CMPi purchased Builder Group in 2003.
Editor Alex Coxon had
only been at the title for seven weeks after previously editing Call
Centre Focus magazine, part of the same group.
A spokesman for
CMPi said: “It’s a very competitive market. Housing Today was a very
good product in terms of editorial quality and the staff had done a
fantastic job on improving revenues.
“It was not making money and our best predictions of that market couldn’t see it making any money.”
CMPi is currently carrying out individual consultations with staff to see if alternative employment in the company can be found.
