Archant has revealed a record number of employees have decided to buy shares in the company.
Some 86 per cent of those eligible, 1,750 staff, have taken advantage of this year’s share incentive scheme.
Most of the shares in the East Anglia-based newspaper and magazine publisher are owned by members of several families. However, under the scheme employees also have the opportunity to become shareholders.
According to Archant, the scheme enables employees to get shares worth £500 in exchange for an outlay of £70. Last month Press Gazette reported that Lord Lucas had urged fellow Archant shareholders to persuade the board to pursue a more cautious policy.
He believes the current company policy of doubling in size could leave it overstretched.
