Scottish Field has marked its centenary with a 160-page edition and a message from the Queen to editor Archie Mackenzie, writes Ruth Addicott.
Scottish Field was founded by John McMurtrie, a long-standing admirer of The Field magazine in England, now published by IPC. He believed Scotland should have its own magazine “devoted to manly sports and outdoor life” and launched Scottish Field in 1903.
In 1994 Caledonia Newspapers sold the magazine to Howard Bennett, who said: “Since the acquisition we have consistently invested in Scottish Field’s future to bring it back to its former glory. Other magazines may come and go, but with care and attention we shall see Scottish Field through its next 100 years.”
