The Scotsman has been criticised by the Press Complaints Commission after taking four months to deal with an accuracy complaint.
In a feature on whether Scotland offered value for money to tourists, the paper confused the exchange rates of sterling to euros and sterling to dollars.
A reader wrote to the paper three times but did not receive acknowledgement of his correspondence.
Having failed to respond to three letters from the PCC itself, the newspaper finally proposed that it would write to the complainant apologising for not responding to him. It also offered to publish a correction and to change its system for responding to complaints.
In its ruling the PCC said: “In taking four months to reply to a straightforward complaint, the newspaper had not fulfilled its responsibility – and the result was a breach of the code.”
