The Rory Peck Trust, the charity that promotes the safety and security of news and current affairs broadcast freelances, has received a £90,000 donation from the Sigrid Rausing Trust, enabling it to give more help to freelances and their families internationally.
Rory Peck Trust chairman Bob Jobbins said the grant would help “to systematically explore ways of expanding our activities in those areas of the world where they are probably ignorant of the existence of the Rory Peck Trust and its capacity to help them”.
The donation will support the trust’s forthcoming project to move further a?eld to identify freelance journalists in need of help.
“The grant will allow us to give assistance to the families of freelances who have been killed, to freelances who have been injured and to begin work that will enable more freelances worldwide to take hostile environment training courses,” said trust director Tina Carr.
Melanie Anstey, an experienced freelance television producer familiar with setting up projects overseas, has been named project director.
She said: “I hope that our work will facilitate the work of the media in general, by helping freelances tell us those stories around the world that are just waiting to be told. And this without the freelances themselves having to pay too high a price for the privilege of the information that they bring us.”
